Can I Install my antenna System myself?

Installation can be a difficult procedure if you don't know what you are doing. Bertram Wireless has elected not to allow any more self installs. The installers that we suggest are fully insured and have been doing this type of work for many years. Installation completed by the installers are always completed in an professional and expedient way.

My Computer Internet keeps going off line, what do I do

When it comes to this problem there are several answers and we may have to look into which situation is yours.

The first thing to do is a full reboot of your system. This needs to be done exactly as instructed. First, you will need to turn off all equipment, meaning lap-tops, wireless printers, XBox, and PCs that link to your router, if you have one. Then, unplug the power plug for the router and the Motorola power supply. Wait 5 minutes, then plug in the Motorola Power supply only, wait 5 minutes. Then plug in the router and wait  5 minutes also. Now turn on your computer.

This usually takes care of most connection problems.

Secondly if you have a  Linksys BFX-41 router you will have to call us to get some special settings for the router. We are also researching other routers that may have this same problem.

If you do not have a router and it seems to be doing the same thing, please call us 920-994-2388 for some special settings.

Check the settings in your mail program that may not be "reading" that your are off-line. If it is checked, uncheck it.

You may have a setting in email that is incorrectly set. If you are using Outlook Express, click the tab that is called "Connections". Remove the checkmark from "Disconnect after sending and receiving", and you should be able to check mail without disconnecting

What is spyware and how do I get rid of it?

It is any software that gathers a user's information through the users Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes.

Spyware is similar to a Trojan Horse in that users unknowingly install the product when they install something else. A common way to become a victim of spyware is to download certain peer-to-peer file-swapping products that are available today.

Aside from the issues of ethics and privacy, spyware steals from the user by using the computer's memory resources and by eating bandwidth as it sends information back to the spyware's home base via the user's Internet connection. Because spyware is using memory and system resources, the applications running in the background can lead to system crashes or general system instability.

Because spyware exists as independent executable programs, they have the ability to monitor keystrokes, scan files on the hard drive, snoop other applications, such as chat programs or word processors, install other spyware programs, read cookies, change the default home page on the Web browser, consistently relaying this information back to the spyware author who will either use it for advertising/marketing purposes or sell the information to another party.

These programs help protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. You can have as many of these scanners on your computer as you want and it is advisable to have more then one. You can only have one antivirus software on at a time. See Info on Spam also.

When I get my invoice as a email, why can't I read it?

This happens because of the settings in your mail program, such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. Many people with Dial-Up have settings so that mail comes to you in Text version. All that needs to be done is to change a few settings and it will correct itself. In Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, Read, and uncheck the "Read all messages in plain text". In Microsoft Outlook, go to Tools, Options, Mail, Mail format and set all settings to “HTML” instead of “Text”.

Can I be wireless within my home?

Initially, our service will be connected to one computer. With equipment called a router that can be purchased from us, you can make your Internet connection wireless within your home. This is great for surfing the Internet with your laptop. Our preference in purchasing a router is the Linksys 54g or the 54g2. The Linksys router has far less problems with our system, so this is the reason for us recommending it. If you purchase a router, please don't install the software included with the router. If you do, you may be adding additional firewalls that will conflict with our system. Let us advise you to lock your router with a pass code, so no one can enter your system. You are responsible for any info that is transmitted from an unsecured router.
